Caldwell Real Estate

Caldwell is a small borough located in Northeastern New Jersey. It is part of Essex County and is just a short drive to New York City and Newark. It was in Caldwell where former President Grover Cleveland was born and raised. His childhood home is now a museum and is open to the public.

History of Caldwell

The first people to live in the territory known as Caldwell today were Lenni Lenape Indians. However, in the year 1702, several European settlers purchased much of the land and created a community that they named the Horse Neck Tract. In 1787, residents decided to change the town’s name to Caldwell Township in honer of one of its founders: Reverend James Caldwell.

Over the next century, this rather large section of land was slowly sectioned out into several smaller boroughs. These smaller communities were named West Caldwell, Caldwell, North Caldwell, Essex Falls, Verona, Fairfield, Roseland and Cedar Grove. Today, Caldwell is a quiet little community with lovely homes and friendly residents.
